Level IV BScN McMaster Site
COMMUNICATIONS CHAIRPERSON 2018 – 2019
Why did you decide to join MUNSS?
I decided to join MUNSS because this is my last chance to get involved at McMaster! I’ve always been interested in media and graphic design in high school, but when I came to university, I took a little break from that and focused all my attention to nursing. Now I get a little break (somewhat) and get to pick up a camera instead of a stethoscope. Plus I was always interested in getting to know the inner workings of MUNSS!
What are some goals this year regarding your MUNSS role (i.e. plans, events, changes you want to make, etc.)?
I want to change up MUNSS’ social media game! Mind you, for someone who ironically rarely uses her own Facebook or Instagram… I’m trying my best! I want to help promote events to nursing students from all levels and all sites! This year, I’m going to revamp our website (shameless self-promo), showcase a monthly e-newsletter, and take photos / make videos to show students what MUNSS is all about!
What advice do you have for your fellow nursing students?
Do whatever you can to stay sane in this program! And what I mean by that is to make sure you take good care of yourself in all the chaos that is nursing. This program will get tough at times, so look for your support people– who you can go to hysterically laugh and cry with. Don’t forget to de-stress, and try your best to be kind to yourself. You’re going to have those “oh fudge…” moments, but remember that they are only temporary. You’ll learn that even though a mistake will feel like the end of the world, and as corny as it sounds, it’ll help you grow into the person you’re meant to be.
A fun fact about yourself, or the craziest thing you’ve ever done!
I have a pet hedgehog and she’s happily scurrying around her cage. She’s cute, but hard to cuddle.
