Gender, Sexuality and Health Conference Information

Please join us for an exciting day of presentations and workshops to expand your knowledge on these important topics!

Current Issues in Gender, Sexuality and Health, is a conference that aims to increase the educational exposure of health professionals to expertise in the fields of gender and health.

Research shows that LGBTQ2+ populations in North America experience barriers to accessing care that cause and exacerbate disparities in health and wellness. The unique needs of individuals within LGBTQ2+ populations also differ among sexual and gender minority subgroups, highlighting the importance of understanding the intersections between gender, race, sexuality, socioeconomic status and wellness.

Even as public awareness of the specific health needs of LGBTQ2+ populations improves, evidence indicates a lack of awareness and knowledge among Canadian physicians and healthcare providers regarding the unique experiences of gender and sexual minorities. Recent medical literature calls for increased training and expertise among healthcare providers in order to provide accessible, quality care to LGBTQ2+ individuals.
