Why did you decide to join MUNSS?

I joined because I want to help contribute to the sense of community within the BScN program and continue to make improvements, especially during this time where everyone is feeling extremely disconnected with everything being online. I also decided to join MUNSS because I wanted to feel a sense of connection to all three sites of our program. I felt very disconnected from everyone in my first year, and really enjoyed my time as a social chairperson last year working with people from all three sites.

What are some goals this year regarding your MUNSS role (i.e. plans, events, changes you want to make, etc.)?

Some goals I have this year include increasing connectivity between all sites so that others have a chance to meet others, especially Conestoga students as they are isolated from the MoMac and Mac stream students. I really hope to host some successful virtual events this term with my co-reps. Exciting things are in store!

What advice do you have for your fellow nursing students?

My advice is to take things slow and try not to compare your journey to anyone else’s. Make sure you are understanding things, and if you fail, it is OKAY. Failing does not mean you aren’t going to make a great nurse. It just means you need to try again. And most likely, you’ll do even better the second time around! Plus remember, it’s very unlikely that your patient is going to ask you what you got in your first-year anatomy class! 😉 They’re going to want to see your confidence in placing that IV!

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I have a twin sister who is also completing her degree at McMaster! She is in the BioPNB double major program, and is planning on becoming a physician assistant! Twins heading into the medical field together 🙂

Why did you decide to join MUNSS?

I joined MUNNS because I wanted to meet more people in the Nursing program and build friendships with them.

What are some goals this year regarding your MUNSS role (i.e. plans, events, changes you want to make, etc.)?

I hope to come up with creative ideas in collaboration with the other level 2 reps in order to still make this year’s events memorable despite the switch to online classes; while also making sure we are accessible to assist any students with their concerns throughout the school year.

What advice do you have for your fellow nursing students?

One bad mark does not determine your overall letter grade! Do not stress if you’re unhappy with one quiz/assignment because there are chances to improve throughout the semester!

What is your favourite TV show?

“You”, and I have been patiently waiting on season 3.

Why did you decide to join MUNSS?

Personally, MUNSS is an outlet for me to be involved in my faculty. Not only that, but it is also an opportunity for me to help spread my passion of nursing among others. Furthermore, becoming a Level-2 Representative is something I truly look forward to – an opportunity for me to advocate and support other Level-2 students while being a voice for them. I look forward to making ’20-’21 a memorable experience for my fellow peers.

What are some goals this year regarding your MUNSS role (i.e. plans, events, changes you want to make, etc.)?

During those tough times of an on-going pandemic and everything switching to online it is important for us that all concerns are still heard while making second year a memorable year through possible events; which are not only academically engaging but also social and connectable among the Level-2’s.

What advice do you have for your fellow nursing students?

You’ll have days when you are going to struggle. You’ll have days when you are going to question your sanity, your own abilities and strengths. You’ll have days when your intellectual power will be challenged. But there will also be days when you will appreciate the profession of nursing and thank yourself for choosing such a rewarding career. So just know; one quiz, one midterm, or one practice assessment does not define your strengths as a nurse. It is an ongoing journey of learning: so, give yourself a small break, take care of yourself, and have supportive friends to help you along the way!

How do you take your coffee?

I love a medium ice coffee with a shot of caramel!

JODY-ANN SPENCER | Conestoga Site

Why did you decide to join MUNSS?

I decided to join MUNSS because I want to help make these four years as memorable possible. The best way to do that is to get involved!

What are some goals this year regarding your MUNSS role (i.e. plans, events, changes you want to make, etc.)?

My goal this year is to help keep everyone feeling as connected as possible. We will not be having much in-person social interactions this year so keeping a healthy online presence is my goal.

What advice do you have for your fellow nursing students?

To keep positive! I know that sounds cliché and that is all that you are hearing these days, but it is true. A lot of what is happening right now is out of our control. So, keep reaching out to friends, family, and faculty for support. We will get through this together.

A fun fact about yourself, or the craziest thing you’ve ever done!

I lived and went to school in Jamaica between the ages of 10-12.

ELIZABETH MURLEY | Conestoga Site

Why did you decide to join MUNSS?

I joined for the same reason I love being in this Program: we are all just (a very large) family! I hope to represent my fellow Conestoga L2’s the best way that I can. I’m always here for ya’ll so please reach out! We can only move forward when we lean on each other.

What are some goals this year regarding your MUNSS role (i.e. plans, events, changes you want to make, etc.)?

I hope to advocate for the needs of my peers whether it’s academic or social. Although we are so spread out and isolated, my goal this year is to help bring us all together. With fun events and a positive spirit, I know we can still feel like a community!

What advice do you have for your fellow nursing students?

If you’re struggling, know you’re not alone. We all doubt ourselves but know that everyone in that Zoom lecture believes in you. It’s okay to have a cry in the shower, take a moment, and a few deep beaths. Eat your favourite meal. Does a car need gas? You need to recharge and refuel to keep going or you’ll burn out. You got this.

What’s your favourite hobby?

I love getting my hands dirty. I like painting, giving an old piece of furniture new life, or gardening in the summer when it’s not too hot!
