Why did you decide to join MUNSS?

Danielle: In high school and even in elementary school I had always participated in extracurricular activities, but for my first year of university, I wanted to try focusing solely on academics. This left me missing the feeling that I was making a difference in my own school life as well as my peers’. Therefore for my second year I decided that I wanted to get more involved, I just wasn’t sure the capacity to which I wanted to do so. I thought back on my first year and remembered how well thought-out and fun the events planned by MUNSS were. I then decided that MUNSS would be the perfect way for me to take more of a part in the nursing community at McMaster in a positive way!

Jhanvi: I decided to become a MUNSS member because I wanted to be more involved in my faculty. I truly am passionate about my program and want to be able to share that passion in a way that can make a difference. I wanted take on a leadership role where I can represent and be a voice for my fellow peers. I am really excited to be a part of the team and hope that this upcoming year is amazing and successful!

Becca: I remember seeing and hearing from members of MUNSS throughout my Welcome Week/orientations and I loved the passion and spirit they had for our program and really wanted to be apart of that. I’ve always loved to take on leadership roles and figured this would be a great way to get involved! I’m excited to represent my level and site and I am looking forward to all the great things MUNSS has planned for the upcoming year.

Ashish: For me being an individual that loved in helping others succeed was always a passion of mine. In order for more students recognize that I and my partner Becca were there for helping them meet their goals, we decided to work together in order to become level 2 CoMac Representatives. This was a pathway for us to create a bond with students, plan events and overall making sure people are aware of their peers and whom they contact when they need help. Overall, ensuring students have a positive mental health as well as a network to help them in need is why we became MUNNSS representatives.

Faith: I decided to join MUNSS to be involved in my school community. I saw all of the fun stuff that they did last year and wanted to be a part of it. I was also a welcome week rep and many of my fellow reps were on MUNSS and loved it. I also love advocating for nursing students and wanted to support the other level two’s.

What are some goals this year regarding your MUNSS role (i.e. plans, events, changes you want to make, etc.)?

Making sure that with the allocated time, I am able to provide students with many fun activities, help students with their learning and overall making sure they know that we are all ears for any concerns. I hope that this year I can plan events that students would find helpful academically but also events that are social and fun

What advice do you have for your fellow nursing students?

Time is key… To elaborate, I love being lazy and procasterniate, the negative outcome is that you become sleep deprived which makes learning impossible. Making sure to plan your time wisely is very important for nursing and must be considered if you’re like me who does everything last minute. Trust me, it’s time that always runs away from you and you must keep up with its pace or if possible beat time itself. Let me know some of your anti-procrastinating tips to help a fellow level 2 student to have more sleep 🙂

A fun fact about yourself, or the craziest thing you’ve ever done!

Danielle: I have 3 different colours in my eyes!

Jhanvi: I have a fear of seeds like the ones you find inside bell peppers and eggplants. It just grosses me out. I guess that’s not really a fun fact.

Becca: I always add French Vanilla creamer to my coffee!

Ashish: Fun facts! I love to watch horror movies, ever Wednesday I make sure to eat a cheesy garlic bread for lunch (don’t know why, but I must), love my man Kanye West.

Faith: I don’t like coffee! Don’t know how I survive nursing school without caffeine.
