“Champions of Family Centered Care: How nurses shape the patient experience”
In October of 2007, Kirsten’s son William was diagnosed with cancer. During the 101-day long battle for his life in McMaster Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Will’s family developed a close and long-lasting bond with the nurses assigned to Will’s care.  As a nurse educator, Kirsten will share her experiences and unique insights into the impact of family centered care on the patient and family experience, as well as the role of nurses as “heroes” to a family in crisis.
