Special Olympics Ontario is looking for post-secondary students to help volunteer for a Healthy Athletes health promotion event in Burlington at a Basketball tournament for people with intellectual disabilities on January 30st at Haber Community Centre Burlington. Healthy Athletes is a world-wide program dedicated to providing low to no cost health care services to people with intellectual disabilities. This is a fantastic opportunity for nursing students to get not only some real world experience, but engage with a marginalized group- our athletes with intellectual disabilities. This will include providing nutritional and general health promotion advice to our athletes including measuring heart rates, blood pressure and their bone density. Volunteers would be provided lunch and snacks for the day.
